Featured Club Programs:

Summer Safari is the name we give to the 3-month blur others refer to as summer break. This summer program begins June 9th and goes through August 8th. Open 7:50 am to 5:10 pm, Monday through Friday. We offer 2 snacks and lunch is served to the kids daily. We base our summer program on the idea that we should be having fun while we learn.

Some of the things our members will do during the summer will be: fishing, swimming at the City Pool, a reading program, gardening, participating in a week long Horse Camp, soccer camp, jump rope camp and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities will also be implemented to reduce summer “brain drain”.

Our Fantastic Art Program:

For the week of Jan. 20, we are getting into the painting style of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) who came to live in New York and became a leader of Modernism painting. What I thought would attract our youth, are the lines, colorful squares and rectangles of Mondrian, dividing the canvas space, a way of designing somewhat reminiscent of what they often watch on their computer screen, when playing their “robot” games.

Last week, overflowing on this week, we made our own Mandalas (circle paintings) as a way to”journey into our lives” These mixed writing with layers of colors. BGC also has a “Draw Wall” right now, for EVERYBODY who chooses to put pencil to paper and make a small, beautiful drawing. Just watch, downstairs, the paper is stretched between the Subway room and the Art room.(Yes, between the bathrooms!) We’ll give you a pencil!

BACK A KID! Scholarship programs that make a difference

The Club is overflowing with fun, play and learning but we are literally OVERFLOWING with requests to add more children to the already 80 per day that we currently serve, during the school year. Yes, we have waiting lists for EVERY SINGLE CLASSROOM! It is our goal to never have to turn away a single child. Despite the fact that in the past five years, the Club has lost over $93k from two State and Federal grants, we have not cut one program, NOT ONE! We continue to be grateful to each and every individual and business in this community who has seen the need and met the call. Success brings challenges. Challenges bring out the best in us all and frankly, the kids are worth every second of it. We will never turn a child away for their family’s inability to pay but we rely on the support of individuals like you to make the difference.

We begin our annual individual campaign – The Back A Kid Campaign – once again for 2014 with new zest and vigor knowing that every child in our community deserves a meal, a positive and safe place to be and our renewed commitment to making room for everyone!

We invite each and every one of you to tour the Club. Give us a call today to schedule your tour. 535-2257
